Welcome to the RHSI Garden Russborough.

3 October 2011

Message from the President

Dear Member,

It is with the greatest pleasure that I write to tell you that the Society has entered into a lease with the trustees of the Alfred Beit Foundation, to take over the walled garden at Russborough House, near Blessington, County Wicklow. Surely, this is the most significant development in our history as a horticultural society since we were founded; a long-held wish fulfilled!

A programme of restoration work will commence as soon as possible, to restore the garden, and to lay out a variety of new areas, all to be completed in time to celebrate our 200th anniversary in 2016. Our aim is to run our new garden, to be known as RHSI Garden Russborough, on an entirely voluntary basis, to provide our members with the opportunity to learn while gardening in these wonderful surroundings, and to pass on their experience and enthusiasm to newer gardening friends. We welcome all who would like to become volunteers in this exciting new project.

Not only will there be a unique opportunity to expand your gardening skills, there will be lots of other jobs too, but the emphasis will be on making the experience as enjoyable as possible through social interaction with fellow gardeners.

If you would like to consider becoming one of our volunteers, come to RHSI Garden Russborough on Saturday 15th October, between 2:30pm and 4pm and our Garden Committee members will be delighted to show you, and any of your gardening friends, around.
Our Volunteer Coordinator is Mary Lee, who can be contacted Monday to Thursday between 11am and 12:30pm on 086-125 5718. Afterwards, tea will be served in the Kitchen Garden Café

Yours sincerely,

Robert S. Myerscough

President
